The panels are fabricated with 20ga material, which is about as thick as a DVD. The most popular panel thickness is 5/8in. All four sides are bent at 90 degrees to give you clean, finished edges. All panels feature 20ga stiffener channels to ensure the panel remains rigid and ripple-free.

All Your Questions Answered

Q: What is the material thickness?
A:

We offer the backsplash/shelf units in the heavy duty 20 gauge thickness only. This ensures you have rigidity and the assembly is strong enough to last for years and years. The thickness is close to that of a CD or DVD. The 20 gauge is the option for customers who like to ensure they're only getting the best, and are more concerned with quality than price.

Q: What is the thickness of the panel?
A:

The minimum thickness of the panel itself is 1/2", and the maximum thickness is 1-1/2". This is achieved by bending all four edges at 90 degrees. This also helps with rigidity and aesthetics. In addition, the left and right sides also feature additional forming, resulting in a "c channel" shape.

Q: Is There a grain direction?
A:

These panels will match the finish on your stainless steel appliances, which feature a “brushed” stainless steel which has a grain (brush strokes) to it. Most, as in 99%+/-, are made with the #4 brushed material due to the ubiquity of the material. A small percentage of appliances are made with a #3 brushed finish which is slightly rougher in appearance. We offer the option for you to specify the “grain direction” of the #4 brushed backsplash material if you want to match your hood, oven, range, dishwasher, trash compactor, fridge, or whatever else you have. If you have not noticed a grain to the finish, look closely and you’ll see brush strokes running either left to right or up and down.

Q: Mounting your backsplash combo unit
A:

The backsplash shelf and bar units feature a proprietary mounting solution that ensures almost anyone can install these. You don't need to be a DIY wizard or contractor. You simply need a screwdriver and a level. The only part that requires some attention to detail is the upper mounting bracket, which needs to be level so your backsplash is level. You can remove the panel and shelf or bar any time for cleaning, etc in less than a minute.

Q: Accuracy of the panels:
A:

We want you to know that we understand you want a backsplash cut to your exact specs. You don’t want a backsplash panel that arrives an 1/8” short or long, or out of square. So, the standard tolerance is -1/16"/+0, and the team members in the shop do their best to fabricate your backsplash to the exact dimensions you specify. Each customer expects excellence and we expect to deliver that. So, the true tolerance is as actually -1/16" /+0 and equipment is constantly calibrated to ensure accuracy. We even use precision-made tape measures when checking the pieces at final inspection, and would rather re-cut a piece than ship something that may not meet your expectations.

Q: Shipping?
A:

You don’t like to receive damaged product that screws up your day or your schedule, and we dislike filing shipping claims, especially expensive ones. The backsplash combo units are shipped in specially designed packaging that we don't want the competition to find out about. The boxes are 100% recyclable, meaning you won't have to worry about disposing of mountains of plastic, etc. We don't use any foam or plastic, except for some strapping tape. The quadruple layered, heavy duty, custom-built mailers with channel stiffeners utilize cardboard in such a way as to minimize packaging materials and maximize protection. The finished product is well protected to ensure everyone stays happy. In the event the shipping company somehow manages to damage the backsplash or shelf (e.g. run it over with a truck, toss it from a moving train, etc) we'll quickly get a new one out to you.

Q: Surface Protection?
A:

All the backsplash combo units have a protective PVC film applied to the finished side of the backsplash and shelf or cookware bar. This is gray in color, and it protects the finish and should be removed AFTER installation. The film ensures the finished side of the backsplash isn't scratched during processing, shipping, and installation so that you have a perfect backsplash when all is said and done. As such, don't forget the un-coated side will have scratching on it due to processing, handling, shipping, etc. We’ve had more than one unhappy customer who didn’t read the label on the front, and we want to save you some frustration.
